THOSE CALLOWAYS Movie Coloring Contest, 1965

A Disney Production starring Brian Keith, Vera Miles, Brandon de Wilde, Walter Brennan, Ed Wynn, Linda Evans and Philip Abbott. "Those Calloways" was directed by Norman Tokar and the music score was by Max Steiner. Film debut of Linda Evans. This coloring contest appeared in newspapers in February of 1965.

Color-A-Comic Ornaments, 1961

This tree ornament features characters from the comic strip "Morty Meekle". I do not know anything about this comic strip.
This candy cane ornament features characters from the comic strip "Freckles and His Friends". This comic strip was about Freckles McGoosey and all his friends, which were many, growing up in the quiet midwestern town of Shadyside. This strip featured paper dolls in the 1930's. Merrill Blosser created "Freckles" in 1915 and the strip ran until 1973.
These two ornaments go with the Alley Oop and Priscilla's Pop ornaments that were posted in September.

I thought I had posted these two ads last year but apparently had not. The JC Penney Sesame Street Clothing Line ad using paper dolls appeared in newspapers in 1977.

THE SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON Movie Coloring Contest, 1961

The Walt Disney version of the book by Johann Wyss. The movie starred John Mills, Dorothy McGuire, James MacArthur, Janet Munro, Sessue Hayakawa, Tommy Kirk and Kevin Corcoran. The movie was directed by Ken Annakin and it received very good reviews. The coloring contest appeared in many newspapers in January of 1961.

CHARLOTTE, A Twinkle Tot, 1924

Another Twinkle Tot from Cutout Town. Her name is Charlotte and she appeared in newspapers in February of 1924. Hats, hats, hats, I love the hats.

How Many Feathers? Contest


This turkey feather counting contest was used for over a decade by stores all over the country.
The ad above appeared in newspapers in 1947 but I have seen the exact same ad in newspapers from the 1930's.

This Disney production was directed by Gary Nelson and was released in 1977. This coloring contest ran in The Valley News on February 03, 1977.

"The Harvest Girl" by Georgia Thanos, Aunt Elsie Club

An imaginative paper doll by Georgia Thanos, age 15, a member of the Aunt Elsie Club. "The Harvest Girl" has a carrot dress, a corn dress, a radish dress and a tomato dress. This paper doll appeared in the Oakland Tribune on November 24, 1929.
