Count correctly the number of stars on and about Uncle Sam's picture. All the stars, large or small, are to be counted. Some are more conspicuous than others, but all are plainly visible. If you are careful you can count the correct number. CONTEST CLOSES December 15, 1903.

THE TOWERING INFERNO Movie Coloring Contest, 1975

I remember going to the theater to see this movie. Star studded disaster movies were very popular for a while in the 1970's. This coloring contest for THE TOWERING INFERNO appeared in newspapers in January of 1975. The movie starred Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Fred Astaire, Susan Blakely, Richard Chamberlain, Jennifer Jones, O. J. Simpson (YIKES!), Robert Vaughn, Robert Wagner, Susan Flannery, Gregory Sierra and Dabney Coleman. I can recognize Steve McQueen in the drawing, but is the other guy suppose to be Paul Newman?

WIN THIS 1938 General Electric Washer


This COUNT THE BUBBLES contest appeared in newspapers in March of 1938. The winner received a new General Electric Washer, valued at $109.95. My mom had a washer like this in the 1950's (I was not born yet) so it is a style that was around for several decades.

This bear family appeared in the magazine "National Doll World", May/June 1985. From my mom's paper doll collection.
Newspaper coloring contest for the movie " The Bears and I" that appeared in a Pennsylvanian newspaper on November 06, 1974. The movie starred Patrick Wayne, Chief Dan George, Andrew Duggan and Michael Ansara. A Disney Production directed by Bernard McEveety.

An excellent paper doll book by Tom Tierney and published by Dover Publications in 1991. The paper dolls in this book are Christopher Columbus, Diego Columbus (son of Columbus and Felipa), Felipa Perestrello e Moniz (wife of Columbus), Queen Isabella, Ferdinand II, Beatriz Enriquez, Hernando Columbus (son of Columbus and Beatriz Enriquez), Vicente Yaniez Pinzon (commander of the Nina) and Martin Alonso Pinzon (commander of the Pinta).

ANNIE GET YOUR GUN Movie Coloring Contest, 1950

ANNIE GET YOUR GUN starred Betty Hutton, Howard Keel, Louis Calhern, Edward Arnold, Keenan Wynn, Benay Venuta and J. Carroll Naish. The movie was directed by George Sidney. Annie Get Your Gun was the movie version of Irving Berlin's Wild West show musical about Annie Oakley getting her man. Songs include "Anything You Can Do", "Doin' What Comes Naturally", and "There's No Business Like Show Business". This movie coloring contest ran in a Wisconsin newspaper on July 13, 1950.
Betty Hutton had the starring role as the singing and dancing Annie Oakley.

THE KID SISTER Paper Dolls, 1933 & 1935

THE KID SISTER was a comic strip created by Lyman Young, brother of Chic Young of Dumb Dora and Blondie fame. Lyman Young also created Tim Tyler's Luck. The Kid Sister ran from 1927 through 1935 and the comic strip included many paper dolls. This paper doll appeared on November 19, 1933.
The colorful Uncle Ed paper doll appeared on February 03, 1935.
